Set Staff Commissions based on Sales

Set Staff Commissions based on Sales

Define the commission percentages for your team, using AAHA codes.

Updated over a week ago

This article is for veterinary clinic owners and managers who want to increase staff motivation, drive revenue growth, and reward the right behaviors. If you're exploring commission models to boost productivity and retention—especially among veterinary technicians and support staff—this is for you.

Why Consider Team Commissions?

If your team isn’t incentivized, they may stick to the bare minimum—missing opportunities to educate clients or promote wellness services. But when commissions are part of the picture, things shift. Staff begin recommending preventive care, engaging clients, and taking ownership of outcomes.

The result?
More engaged employees, happier clients, healthier pets—and a clinic that grows sustainably.

How to Set Up Commissions in Digitail

Digitail now allows you to track commissions directly from the platform—no spreadsheets needed!

Step 1: Set Commission Rules

  1. Go to Admin → Team → Staff Commission.

  2. Choose a staff member (e.g., veterinarian or technician).

  3. Assign a commission percentage per AAHA code (e.g., 5% for Dental Prophylaxis).

✅ You can assign different percentages per AAHA code and per user!

Step 2: Configure Your Services and Products

  1. Make sure every product/service has the correct AAHA code.

  2. On each SOAP → Billing line item, confirm that:

    • The correct provider is attributed (this determines who gets the commission).

    • You can manually adjust the provider on each line if needed.

💡 The line item defaults to the main provider of the SOAP but can be reassigned.

Step 3: Track and Review Commissions

  1. Go to Reports → Detailed Providers Report.

  2. Select a provider and export the data.

  3. The exported CSV will include:

    • The commission percentage per line

    • The total commission earned for the period

You can do this monthly (or at your chosen interval) to review payouts and performance.

Tips for Success

  • Communicate Clearly: Let your staff know exactly how commissions are calculated.

  • Review Regularly: Reevaluate targets and percentages based on your clinic’s growth.

  • Stay Ethical: Reward great client education and service—not just sales volume.

  • Celebrate Wins: Publicly recognize team members who meet or exceed goals.

Commission structures aren’t just about money. They’re about showing your team that their effort matters. With Digitail’s commission tracking tools, you can create a fair, transparent, and motivating system that encourages staff to grow your clinic with you
