Activate a Digitail Wellness Plan (DWP) in three ways:
Enroll the client in-clinic (Assign plan) - your team picks a plan, adds the card on file, and activates it during the visit.
Send a plan proposal by email - the pet parent receives a link and self-enrolls. They can complete enrollment in the mobile pet portal app or, if they don't have the app, in the web pet portal - no app download required.
From your clinic website (new) - add a per-plan "Enroll" link to your website so new and existing pet parents can sign up directly through the web pet portal.
❗The "Wellness Plans" actions are available only if your clinic has Digitail Secure Payments (DSP) and DWP activated.
Putting a patient on a plan
Option A - Assign plan (clinic enrolls now)
You can do that from any patient's Health Card, by going to the 'Wellness plans' tab of the Client card and clicking on the 'Add Plan'.
❗The button will only be visible if your clinic has the Digitail Secure Payments (DSP) payment processor and wellness plans (DWP) have been activated for your clinic.

From here, you can select the Plan you want to use and the patient (the default will be the patient on the Health Card).
The plan will start by default on today's date, but it can be adjusted to a future date if the pet parent prefers the plan to begin later.
A future start date can be helpful when a pet parent wants the plan to renew around their payday. This also makes it easier for them to keep up with payments.
Depending on the plan configuration, the plan duration can be one year or "No end date".
When there is no plan end date, the Plan will be renewed automatically until it's canceled, while its benefits renew yearly.
For example, a monthly plan will automatically renew each month, creating a new invoice and triggering a payment. Similarly, a yearly plan will renew annually, generating the corresponding invoice and payment.
A one-year plan (suitable for puppies or kittens) will not renew after one year.
Add a plan modal (benefits & discounts + limits are clearly visible)
To activate the plan, click the "Save Plan" button. Before doing so, you'll need to either select a saved card already on file with the clinic or add a new one by clicking the "Add a new card" button.
After saving:
If the plan is set to start today, the system will immediately attempt to charge the client's card. If the payment goes through, the plan is activated.
If the plan has an upfront fee configured, the payment processor will charge the first installment of the plan + the one-time upfront fee.
If the start date is in the future, the system schedules the first charge, and the plan remains in a "Pending" status until then.
Plan activation confirmation email
Once the first payment is successfully processed, an activation email is sent to the pet parent.
The email includes:
Plan name and description (from the plan settings).
Price and recurrence (e.g., "$35/month")
Start date
Link to access the Pet Portal
At the same time, an email containing the plan invoice is sent. The invoice will display the plan charge + the upfront fee.
Option B - Send a plan proposal (pet parent self-enrolls)
Use this when you want the pet parent to review and accept the plan themselves.
Click Send proposal (from the same Wellness Plans area).
Select the plan.
Click Send.
What happens next
The pet parent receives an email with a secure link to review the plan details. From there, they can complete enrollment in either of two places:
Mobile pet portal (app) - if the pet parent already has the Digitail pet portal app installed, the link opens the proposal inside the app, where they accept, add a payment method, and activate.
Web pet portal (browser) - new - if the pet parent doesn't have the app, the same link opens the proposal in their browser.
The pet parent is already logged in, they do not need to put in their credentials and their pet is already selected.
In both cases:
The plan becomes Active only after the first successful payment.
The clinic is notified when the proposal is accepted/enrolled.
The pet parent receives the same plan activation confirmation email described above.
💡 No password needed. When the pet parent clicks Review and enroll in the proposal email, the link itself signs them in - they don't need to enter an email or type a password. They land directly on the plan details, ready to confirm the pet and pay. This passwordless login (called a "magic link") is also what pet parents use when they visit the web pet portal on their own or book through your public calendar.
Important rules
No benefits are granted while waiting for acceptance. Benefits & discounts apply only when the plan is Active.
If payment fails during enrollment, the plan won't activate and will follow the normal payment issue / past due handling.
Tip: Proposals are ideal for reducing front-desk time spent collecting card details and for letting clients enroll at home.
Option C - From your clinic website (new)
Add an "Enroll" link to your clinic's website so new and existing pet parents can sign up for a wellness plan directly, without you having to assign it manually.
How it works for pet parents
The pet parent clicks the "Enroll" or "See plans" link on your clinic's website.
They land on the web pet portal plans page, where they can browse all your visible plans, view details, and pick one.
They log in with a magic link if they're an existing client, or register if they're new. Registration also lets them add their pet(s) in the same flow.
They confirm the pet, add a payment method, and activate.
The clinic is notified of the new enrollment, and the pet parent receives the standard activation email.
How to set it up
Each plan has a copy-paste enrollment link. From Administration → Wellness Plans, open the plan you want to expose, and copy the shareable link. Paste it into your website wherever you want the call-to-action - a button, menu item, or pricing-page CTA all work. You can use a different link per plan to drive sign-ups to specific offers.
‼️Tip: This is the most effective way to attract new clients who aren't yet in your Digitail system. The web pet portal sign-up flow doubles as account registration, so a brand-new pet parent can become an active client and a wellness plan member in one sitting.
View all Patients that are on a plan
Navigate to the pet parent's information area, and click on the 'Wellness plans' tab.
Here you can see all Plans associated with this client's pets, in one place.
You can easily see which patients are on a plan on the Patients report. You can filter all patients using the 'Plans' filter, so you can see them at a glance.
All patients that are on a Plan are also marked with a special icon. You can see this next to their name, on all pet/client info cards, across the platform. By clicking on the icon, you can see all plans associated with that patient, with all their details.
Plan Statuses Explained
Each plan has a real-time status, so you can manage and track them easily:
Plan status | What it means | Color Code |
Active | The plan is in good standing, and billing is on schedule. | Green |
Pending | The plan is not yet active; the pet parent's card was not charged. | Blue |
Past due | Payment failed; automatic notifications were sent to both the pet parent and the clinic. | Red |
Partially Paid | The last charge was successful; however, there are one or more charges that have not gone through. | Orange |
Canceled | The plan has been canceled by the clinic or has reached the end date. | Grey |
Manage a plan
Click on the Plan name in the Healthcard to manage the plan. This brings up the plan modal actions
There are several actions you can perform here:
You can change the plan's recurrence date. (coming soon).
You can change the card assigned to a plan by clicking on the cards on the file dropdown (in the edit plan) and selecting a different card, then clicking "Save plan". At the same time, you can define a new card and associate it with the plan after it becomes visible in the cards on file dropdown.
You can also cancel the plan by clicking on the red "Cancel plan" button and then clicking confirm.
Pet portal Visibility
Pet parents can view their wellness plans in two places: the mobile pet portal app and the new web pet portal (browser).
Mobile pet portal (app)
Pet parents can view their plans directly from the Digitail for pets - pet portal.
What they see:
On the pet's healthcard - how many plans is the pet covered by.
When tapping on "View profile button" the pet parent is directed to the detailed healthcard where there is a designated wellness plan tab "Plans".
When tapping on it, the pet parent will see the list of plans and their status for that pet.
When tapping on a plan card, the pet parent is directed to the plan detailed view where they can see:
Plan name and status.
Plan recurrence and price.
Next payment date and card on file associated with the plan.
Plan description.
Web pet portal (browser) - new
Pet parents can also view their plans by logging in to the web pet portal with a magic link. The web portal shows the same plan information as the app:
All wellness plans associated with their pets, with current status.
Plan recurrence and price.
Next payment date and card on file.
Plan description and benefits list, with friendly Client-facing names.
This is useful for pet parents who don't have the app installed yet, or who want to check a plan from a desktop or a shared device. Plan management actions (cancellation, card updates) remain in the mobile pet portal app.
