SOAP 2.0 is a focused update to how medical records are created, reviewed, and shared in Digitail. This article covers everything that's changed and answers common questions as you get started.

Launching · April 2026

Before You Begin

SOAP 2.0 is launching mid-April 2026. Your existing workflows, templates, and records remain unaffected. Once launched, you'll see a V1 / V2 toggle inside individual records. This lets you try the new experience without committing to it across the board.

When your team is ready to fully switch over, go to Settings → Clinic Preferences and enable "Use SOAP 2.0 Only" to remove the toggle and use V2 across all records.

📌 There's no deadline to switch at this time — explore at your own pace.

What's New in SOAP 2.0

Smarter Templates

Templates have been significantly updated to give your team more control over how records are structured and displayed.

  • Markdown formatting support (bold, bullet points, etc)

  • Customizable field names — rename existing Digitail fields to match your clinic's terminology

  • Private fields — mark any field as internal-only so it's excluded when records are shared with clients

  • Field width control for improved layout and readability

  • Internal helper descriptions — add tooltips to guide clinical staff without cluttering the record view

  • Full flexibility to add and remove existing fields, groups, and widgets

  • Visual indicators showing at a glance which fields contain content

📌 Your existing templates are automatically carried over to the New Template Section in your Administration panel. You can customize them at any time.

🚨Only SOAP 2.0 Records support Markdown Formatting🚨

A Redesigned Record Experience

  • Updated S.O.A.P. layout with a clear, persistent record header

  • Quick actions bar at the top of every record for common tasks

  • Record status is clearly visible and accessible at all times

  • Hospitalize a patient directly from within the record — no need to navigate away

  • Markdown formatting is available directly in the record view (SOAP 2.0 Records Only)

  • Record-level search within the SOAP

  • Tails AI toolkit is accessible directly within the record on the right side

⚠️ Workflow change to be aware of:

New records are now open in In Progress status. The Finalize button has been removed. You select a template and continue working.

📌 This was the most-requested change from clinics in our beta program. It removes a step that wasn't adding clinical value.

Better Record Review

Timeline improvements:

  • Records now display in proper chronological SOAP order: Subjective → Objective → Assessment → Plan → Recommendation

  • Expand All option — no more clicking "See More" on every record section individually

  • Show Full Record expands the complete record inline in the Health Card — no new tab needed

  • Billing status is now visible at the top of each timeline card

PDF & record summaries:

  • Markdown formatting carries through to Timeline and PDF summaries

  • New toggleable PDF record summary for sharing individual records

Bulk Record Sharing

You can now share multiple records in one step, directly from the Flowboard or Health Card.

  • Bulk record sharing from both the Flowboard and the Health Card

  • Email all selected records as a single combined PDF (limited to 40)

  • Add a custom message when emailing records to clients

  • Records are sent in correct chronological order (newest to oldest)

📌 A maximum of 40 records can be included per share or download action as a single PDF.

📌 Note: Discharge documents are not yet included in the bulk sharing flow. This is on our roadmap for a future update.

Getting Started

  1. Try the new record view. Once SOAP 2.0 is launched, use the V1/V2 toggle on any record to try V2.

  2. Explore your templates. Your existing templates carry over. Try renaming fields, adding markdown, or marking a field as private.

  3. Create a record. Notice the new layout, quick actions bar, and In Progress default status.

  4. Review the timeline. Expand records inline, check the chronological SOAP order, and use "Show Full Record."

  5. Try bulk sharing. Select multiple records from the Flowboard or Health Card and send them as a single PDF.

  6. Ready to commit? Go to Settings → Clinic Preferences → Enable "Use SOAP 2.0 Only" to remove the V1/V2 toggle and use V2 across all records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my existing templates break when I switch to SOAP 2.0? No. Your existing templates carry over automatically. You can continue using them as-is, or begin customizing them using the new template editor at any time.

Can I go back to V1 after switching? Yes — as long as your clinic hasn't enabled "Use SOAP 2.0 Only" in Clinic Preferences, the V1/V2 toggle remains available on every record. Once you enable "Use SOAP 2.0 Only," the toggle is removed and all records use V2. This setting can be reversed by an Administrator if needed.

What happened to the Finalize button? It's been removed. In SOAP 2.0, new records open directly in In Progress status — there's no longer a separate step to finalize before the record is active. Records move through statuses (In Progress → Locked) as part of your normal workflow.

Who can change the record status? Record status permissions are unchanged from SOAP V1. The same roles that could manage record statuses before can do so in SOAP 2.0. If you're unsure about your clinic's permission setup, contact your Administrator.

Where did Certificates go? Within the SOAP 2.0 record, Certificates have moved into the dedicated Documents section. If you're accessing Certificates from the Health Card, the path is unchanged — this only affects the in-record flow.
