SOAP 2.0 becomes the standard: what's changing and what you need to know

What changes when SOAP v2 becomes the default for new medical records, and answers to common questions about the switch.

What's happening

Starting September 24, 2026, SOAP 2.0 will be the default experience for all clinics when creating new medical records.

It's faster to use, with custom fields, more powerful templates, record change history, and an improved QuickSOAP. All of these improvements were built to give you the flexibility to document care the way your clinic wants to.

What's different in 2.0?

The new SOAP experience allows for more advanced and helpful functionality than before.

  • Your existing v1 templates carry over automatically; nothing needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

  • Custom Template Fields: add fields specific to your clinic's workflow, on top of your existing templates.

  • Full record template customization: more control over your record templates than v1 allowed, not just individual fields.

  • QuickSOAP update: decide which specific fields in your record template Tails should auto-complete, with field-specific instructions and formatting rules for more accurate documentation.

  • Full Record History: get the clarity you need, see who changed the record, what they changed, and when.

  • Multi-user Record Sync: Coming soon

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will I lose access to my old records?

No. All legacy (1.0) records you've already created remain fully accessible. This only affects how new records are created going forward.

Will my old records look different?

The display updates to the new SOAP 2.0 layout, but the content of the record itself doesn't change. Nothing you documented gets edited, reformatted, or lost; only the look and feel of how it's displayed on screen.

Do I need to do anything?

No action is required. If your team wants to get comfortable with 2.0 first, you can sit down together and create a test record for anyone who hasn't yet tried the improved SOAP documentation experience.

The short video walkthrough is also worth a look before September 24, 2026.

Can I switch to the new experience early?

Yes, your clinic can enable the new default experience ahead of September 24th.

Turn on "Default to SOAP 2.0 Only" under Clinic Preferences whenever it suits you.

What if I need help after the switch?

You can always contact our support team via the chat inside Digitail, or reach out to your account manager who will be able to help.

Why now?

Every clinic on one record format means new capabilities, like multi-user record sync and record history, can become available sooner. It's also one less format for your team and new hires to learn.
