What is the Notification Center?
The Notification Center is where Digitail surfaces everything that needs your attention - appointment updates, task assignments, lab results, client replies, and more. It's designed to replace the need to check multiple modules: if something relevant happens in Digitail, it shows up here. You can also control exactly which notifications you receive, how you receive them, and whether you see updates for your own work only or for the whole team.
How this helps your daily work
Role | How it helps |
Receptionists / Front desk | See all appointment requests and client replies in one place - including updates from colleagues - so nothing slips through during a busy front desk shift. |
Vets & nurses | Stay focused on your own patients and tasks by filtering to personal notifications only. Get alerted to lab results and mentions without being distracted by clinic-wide activity. |
Practice managers | Enable both personal and clinic notifications for full visibility across the team. Catch unassigned tasks, payment confirmations, and anything that needs attention at a glance. |
Where to find it
Click the bell icon in the top-right corner of Digitail to open the Notification Center. A red badge shows the number of unread notifications - this only counts notifications in your My Notifications and My Mentions tabs, not clinic-wide ones.
To manage your notification preferences, click the Settings icon inside the Notification Center sidebar, or go to My Profile → Notifications Preferences tab.
📌 In a multi-clinic setup, you only see notifications for the clinic you're currently logged into.
How to use the Notification Center
The five tabs
The Notification Center is organized into tabs so you can focus on what matters most.
My Notifications - notifications directly linked to you: tasks assigned to you, your appointments, messages relevant to your work. Start here each day.
My Mentions - notifications where a colleague has tagged you in a comment on a record, task, or appointment. Check this when you need to respond to something specific.
Client Replies - all incoming client text replies to messages sent from Digitail. This tab is visible to anyone who needs to manage client conversations quickly.
All - clinic-wide notifications from your colleagues, based on your preferences. These do not count toward your red badge.
Archived - notifications you've manually archived. They stay here for reference but don't appear in other tabs.
Acting on notifications
Clicking a notification marks it as read and updates the badge count. What happens next depends on the type:
Tasks - opens a quick Task Preview directly in the sidebar. You can mark it as Done, change the Assignee, edit it, or take other actions without leaving the Notification Center.
Records and Lab Results - opens the relevant patient record or SOAP in a new tab.
Other notifications - some are informational only and don't navigate anywhere.
Keeping your inbox clean
Each tab has bulk actions at the top to help you stay on top of things:
Mark all as read - clears the unread badge without removing anything
Archive all read - removes read notifications from view, keeping only new ones
Archive all - clears the entire tab at once
These actions apply per tab - so you can archive everything in My Mentions without touching My Notifications. To archive a single notification, click the X next to it.
Other things you can do
Set your notification preferences
You control which notifications you receive, how they're delivered, and whether you see personal updates only or clinic-wide ones too.
To open preferences:
Click the bell icon to open the Notification Center
Click the Settings icon in the top-right corner of the sidebar
Or go to My Profile → Notifications tab.
Choose Personal or Clinic notifications
For each notification category, you can set the scope independently:
Personal - only updates that directly involve you (your appointments, tasks assigned to you, your patients)
Clinic - updates about your colleagues' activities too (any appointment booked, any task created, etc.)
Some notifications are always clinic-wide regardless of this setting - for example, SMS replies from pet parents. When enabled, these appear in everyone's Notification Center.
❗ Important: If a toggle is turned on, you will receive that notification according to your selected preferences. Email notifications are sent to your Digitail login email. Platform notifications appear in your Notification Center (🔔 bell icon in the top-right corner).
Choose how you receive notifications
For most notification types you can choose to receive them via:
Platform - appears in your Notification Center (bell icon)
Email - sent to your Digitail login email address
⚠️ Not all notification types support email delivery for clinic staff. For example, appointment status changes only email the pet parent - not the clinic team. To adjust what pet parents receive, see your clinic's Pet Parent Notification settings.
Notification categories
Notifications are organized into these categories in your preferences:
Category | What triggers it |
Appointments | New requests, confirmations, cancellations, reschedules |
Tasks | Task assigned to you, edited, marked done, or overdue |
Lab Results | New lab results received |
Payments | Payment link successfully paid by a pet parent - includes pet parent name, amount, and description |
Client Communication | Pet parent replies, signed forms, treatment plan responses |
Digitail Wellness Plans | Failed subscription payments |
Other | Mentions - when a colleague tags you in an appointment, task, or record |
💡 Payment notifications are always clinic-wide and appear in the All tab for all team members.
Tips & best practices
Start by opening My Notifications each morning - it's the cleanest signal of what needs your action today.
Use Archive all read at the end of each shift to keep your inbox clear. Archived notifications aren't deleted - they're still accessible in the Archived tab.
If you're a receptionist managing the schedule for multiple vets, set your Appointments preference to Clinic so you see all booking activity, not just your own.
If you're a vet who finds the Notification Center noisy, switch Appointments and Tasks to Personal only - you'll only hear about your own schedule and assignments.
Email notifications go to your Digitail login email. Make sure that address is current on your profile, or you'll miss them.
The Client Replies tab is shared - anyone on the team with access can see and respond. Agree with your team who's responsible for monitoring it.
Common Questions
Why don't clinic-wide notifications count toward my badge?
The red badge only counts unread notifications in your My Notifications and My Mentions tabs - the ones that require your direct attention. Clinic-wide notifications in the All tab are informational and kept separate to avoid badge inflation.
I'm not receiving email notifications. What should I check?
First, check that the toggle for email delivery is enabled in your Notification Preferences for the relevant category. Then confirm your email address is correct in My Profile. Also check your spam folder - Digitail emails occasionally land there on first delivery.
Can I receive notifications for a different clinic in my multi-clinic setup?
No - you only see notifications for the clinic you're currently logged into. Switch your active clinic to see that location's notification feed.
I archived a notification by mistake. Can I get it back?
Archived notifications aren't deleted - go to the Archived tab to find it. You can't un-archive individual notifications, but they remain visible there for reference.
Why can't I see certain notification types in my preferences?
Some notification categories or email options aren't available for all user roles or clinic configurations. If you expect to see a category that isn't there, contact your clinic administrator to check your role permissions.
How do I stop receiving notifications about pet parent activity?
Go to your Notification Preferences and disable the Client Communication category, or switch it from Clinic to Personal if you only want to see replies linked to your own clients. Note that some pet parent activity - like SMS replies - is always clinic-wide when enabled, so it will appear for all team members if the clinic has that setting turned on.
