Quick PDF Download

Every response from TAILS includes convenient action buttons that remain accessible as you scroll through longer conversations.

  1. Locate the Download button (download icon) in the top-right corner of any TAILS response (after the TAILS response has finished generating content)

  2. Click the Download button to open the download options menu.

  3. Select Download Now for an immediate PDF export.

The PDF will automatically generate with:

  • Professional formatting and styling

  • Auto-generated document title based on the content

  • Clean, readable layout optimized for printing and sharing

  • The file will be saved to your default downloads folder (usually named after the document title and date)

The action buttons follow you as you scroll through longer TAILS responses, so you can always access download options even in extensive conversations.


Advanced Editing and Customization

For more control over your final document, use the Edit Before Download option to customize content, refine with AI assistance, and manage different versions of your edits.

Opening the Editor

  1. Click the Download button on any TAILS response.

  2. Select Edit Before Download from the dropdown menu.

  3. The editing modal will open in fullscreen mode.

Setting Your Document Title

The editor automatically generates a professional title for your document, but you can customize it:

  1. Review the auto-generated title in the Document Title field.

  2. Edit the title as needed for your specific use case (e.g., "Discharge Instructions for Bella - March 2025").

  3. Ensure the title accurately reflects your document's purpose.

A document title is required before generating your PDF. If you try to download without a title, you'll see a warning and need to enter one before proceeding.

Manual Content Editing

The built-in rich text editor provides full control over your content:

  1. Click in the Content area to begin editing.

  2. Use standard rich text formatting for structure and emphasis.

  3. Make any necessary changes to tailor the content for your needs.

  4. The editor supports real-time preview of your formatting.

Example:

  • Before: "Administer medication as needed."

  • After (edited): "Administer Metacam 1.5mg once daily with food. Monitor for any signs of discomfort and contact the clinic if symptoms persist."

AI-Powered Content Refinement

Enhance your content with additional AI assistance:

  1. Click Refine with TAILS to open the refinement sidebar.

  2. In the Describe your refinement text area, enter specific instructions such as:

    • "Make this more concise for Pet Parent communication."

    • "Add more technical detail for colleague reference."

    • "Reorganize into a step-by-step format."

    • "Emphasize the urgency of follow-up care."

Example Instruction:

  • "Rewrite this so it's easy for a first-time Pet Parent to understand."

Before:

"Monitor for polyuria and polydipsia."

After (Refined):

"Watch if your pet is drinking or urinating more than usual. If you notice this, please contact us."

Click Refine Content to process your request.

  1. Watch as TAILS streams the refined content in real-time.

  2. Your refinement becomes the new current version, while the previous version is preserved.

The AI refinement feature leverages the Patient's complete medical history and knowledge base to provide contextually relevant improvements to your content.

Version Management

Track and revert between different refinement iterations of your content:

The version system helps you:

  • Experiment with different refinements without losing your work

  • Compare multiple approaches to the same content

  • Revert to previous versions if a refinement doesn't meet your needs

Here's how it works:

  1. Each refinement creates a new version in the Version History section.

  2. Click on any version to instantly switch the editor content back to that version.

  3. Version labels show:

    • Original for the initial TAILS response

    • v1, v2, etc. for each refinement iteration

    • Brief description of the refinement instruction that created that version

    • Timestamp of when the version was created

  4. The Current badge indicates which version you're currently viewing/editing.

Versions are different refinements of the same original content. Each time you refine, you create a new version while preserving all previous versions for easy comparison and rollback.


Generating Your Final PDF

Once you're satisfied with your content:

  1. Ensure your Document Title is set.

  2. Confirm you're viewing the desired version (check the footer status).

  3. Click Download PDF to generate your customized document.

The generated PDF includes:

  • Your custom document title as the header

  • Professional medical document styling

  • Properly formatted tables, lists, and emphasis

  • Optimized layout for both digital viewing and printing

  • The file will be saved to your default downloads folder

  • You want to save a standard TAILS summary for your records

  • You need to quickly archive a recommendation or summary for compliance

  • You want to print a TAILS response for internal use

  • You need to tailor the message for a Pet Parent (e.g., simplify language, add instructions)

  • You want to add clinic-specific notes or branding

  • You need to prepare a formal report for a colleague or specialist

  • You want to experiment with multiple refinements and keep track of changes

  • You want to create different versions for different audiences (e.g., technical vs. Pet Parent)

The editing modal can be toggled between fullscreen and windowed mode using the maximize/minimize button in the header, allowing you to reference other Patient information while editing.

  1. Review Auto-Generated Titles: While TAILS creates relevant titles, customizing them for your specific context improves document organization

  2. Use Descriptive Refinement Instructions: Specific requests yield better results than generic "make it better" instructions

  3. Leverage Patient Context: The AI refinement uses the Patient's medical history, so referencing specific conditions or treatments in your instructions provides more targeted improvements

  4. Experiment with Versions: Don't hesitate to try multiple refinement approaches - you can always revert to a previous version if needed

  5. Keep Audience in Mind: Use refinements to adapt the same content for different audiences (technical colleagues vs. Pet Parents)
