Submit claims with Trupanion Integration (Beta)

Submit insurance claims and request pre-approvals for Trupanion-insured patients, directly from Digitail.

The Trupanion integration connects Digitail directly to the Trupanion Vet Portal, so your team can manage insurance for Trupanion-covered patients without leaving the PIMS.

With the integration active, your clinic can:

  • See which patients have Trupanion coverage, directly in Digitail

  • Access appointments and patient data synced from Digitail in the Trupanion Vet Portal

  • Submit insurance claims without re-entering data

  • Request pre-approvals for expensive or complex treatments

  • Receive Trupanion payment directly at patient check-out

  • Run end-of-day payment reconciliation reports

Before You Start

Make sure:

  • Your clinic has an active Trupanion vet portal account

  • You have admin permissions in Digitail


How to Connect Trupanion to Digitail

This integration is set up by the Trupanion team. To get started:

  1. Contact Trupanion and let them know your clinic uses Digitail

  2. Their team will enable the integration and connect it to your Digitail account

  3. Once active, Trupanion-insured patients will be flagged directly in Digitail


Claims Submission

Once the integration is active, you can submit Trupanion claims directly from Digitail — patient and visit data flows through automatically, with no need to re-enter information.

How it works

  1. Complete the visit and finalize the SOAP record as usual

  2. Submit the claim to Trupanion directly from within Digitail

  3. Track the claim status from the patient's record

  4. Trupanion processes the claim — payment is received directly at check-out and reconciled automatically


Pre-Approval Requests

For expensive or complex treatments, you can request a pre-approval from Trupanion before proceeding. This gives pet owners clarity on what their policy covers, helping with informed decisions and improving case acceptance rates.

How it works

  1. From the patient's record, initiate a pre-approval request to Trupanion

  2. Trupanion reviews the request and responds with coverage details

  3. You and the pet owner can confirm the treatment plan with full coverage visibility


Things to Keep in Mind

  1. Only patients with an active Trupanion policy are eligible for claims submission and pre-approval through this integration

  2. Make sure the patient's policy ID is saved to their profile in Digitail for the integration to work correctly
