Digitail Secure Payments (DSP) uses the Stripe Reader S710 as its default payment terminal. It works over Wi-Fi and includes optional built-in cellular connectivity for clinics that need payments to stay running when Wi-Fi is unavailable. This article walks you through everything from unboxing to your first payment.
What is the S710?
The Stripe Reader S710 is a smart payment terminal that supports all standard DSP payment workflows - accepting in-person card payments, processing refunds, and saving cards on file. It works over Wi-Fi by default and includes optional built-in cellular connectivity as a paid add-on.
If your clinic also has a WisePOS E terminal, it continues to work and does not need to be replaced.
Before you start
Before setting up your S710, confirm you have the following:
An active Digitail Secure Payments (DSP) account
Your S710 terminal (and optional dock, if ordered)
Your clinic's Wi-Fi network name and password
An Administration role in Digitail
Need to set up DSP or order a terminal? Contact Digitail Support.
Step-by-step setup
Phase 1: Set up the hardware
Remove the S710 from the packaging.
If you ordered the optional dock, place the terminal onto the dock and press it down until it clicks into position.
Press and hold the power button on the side of the device until the screen turns on.
The terminal will display the startup screen and walk you through initial configuration.
Phase 2: Connect to Wi-Fi
Swipe in from the left edge of the terminal screen to reveal the menu.
Tap Settings and enter the admin passcode when prompted.
Tap Wi-Fi and select your clinic's network from the list.
Enter your network password and tap Connect.
Wait for the terminal to confirm the connection before continuing.
Phase 3: Register the terminal in Digitail
On the terminal, go to Settings and select Generate Pairing Code. Note the code displayed on screen.
In Digitail, go to Administration - Integrations and click the settings icon next to Digitail Secure Payments.
Select Terminal Locations and choose your clinic location, or create a new one.
Select Add Terminal and enter the pairing code from your S710.
Once registered, the S710 will appear in your terminals list with a status of Connected.
How to verify it works
After setup, run a quick test to confirm your terminal is ready:
In Digitail, open a patient visit or navigate to Payments - New Payment.
Enter a payment amount and select your S710 terminal when prompted.
Tap or insert a card on the terminal.
Confirm the payment processes successfully and appears in your payment history.
If the terminal does not appear in the terminal selector, make sure it is powered on, connected to Wi-Fi, and registered in Digitail. If the issue continues, contact Digitail Support.
Optional: Enable mobile connectivity
The S710 includes built-in cellular connectivity that can be enabled as a paid add-on. When active, cellular keeps your terminal processing payments even when your clinic's Wi-Fi is unavailable.
Mobile Connectivity may be useful for:
Mobile or house-call clinics accepting payments away from a fixed Wi-Fi network
Clinics with inconsistent or unreliable internet coverage
Teams that want a backup payment connection
Mobile Connectivity may not be necessary when:
Your clinic has stable, reliable Wi-Fi
You already have a backup internet option such as a mobile hotspot
To enable cellular connectivity:
Contact Digitail Support with your clinic name, terminal serial number, and the number of terminals you would like to enable. Digitail will activate cellular and confirm once it is ready. You do not need to insert or manage a SIM card - cellular is managed entirely through Digitail.
Tips and best practices
Keep your terminal plugged in overnight. Software updates are delivered automatically at midnight and require the terminal to be on and connected to power. Unplugging it at the end of the day can delay updates.
Use the dock as the terminal's home position. It keeps the terminal charged and in a consistent location for your team.
Leave the terminal on between patients. The S710 wakes quickly and is designed for continuous use throughout the clinic day.
Common Questions
Does the S710 require cellular connectivity?
No. The S710 works over Wi-Fi by default. Cellular is an optional add-on for clinics that want a backup connection.
Can I insert my own SIM card?
No. Cellular is built into the S710 and is managed through Digitail. You cannot insert or manage your own SIM card.
How can I tell if my terminal is connected?
Go to Administration - Integrations in Digitail and open your Terminal Locations. Your S710 should show a status of Connected. If it shows as offline, confirm the terminal is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi.
What payment methods does the S710 accept?
The S710 accepts contactless tap payments, chip, and swipe, including credit cards, debit cards, and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
My terminal disconnected this morning - is that normal?
Yes. The terminal restarts automatically every night at midnight for security compliance. It reconnects when you wake it up in the morning. To minimize any delay, keep the terminal plugged in overnight so it can also receive software updates during the restart.
What do the payment sounds mean?
A single long beep means the payment was successful. Two short beeps mean the payment was not read or failed - try tapping or inserting the card again.
The terminal won't turn on after charging
If the battery was fully drained, it can take up to 30 minutes of charging before the screen turns on. The charging LED will be lit during this time even though the display is off. Leave the terminal connected to the included power adapter and try again.
Is cellular available for clinics outside the United States and Canada?
Contact Digitail Support to discuss cellular availability for your country.
My terminal is showing an error - what should I do?
You can refer to Stripe's S700/S710 troubleshooting guide for connectivity and hardware diagnostics. For device issues, contact Digitail Support through your usual DSP support channel.
Can I still use my WisePOS E terminal?
Yes. Existing WisePOS E terminals continue to work with Digitail Secure Payments and do not need to be replaced.
