👉 Overview of the Plan Section
✨ Smart Discharge Notes (in Beta)
We’re excited to introduce a new way for clinics to generate detailed and customizable discharge documents. It’s designed to save time, improve client experience, and support better patient care.
Fully Customizable Sections
You can now tailor discharge documents to your clinic's needs:
Add or remove sections such as Medication, Recheck Instructions, General Care, etc.
Create your own sections using text, image blocks, or links
Rearrange sections easily using drag-and-drop.
Rename sections to better fit your clinic's tone or formatting preferences.
Steps to Add Text Blocks
Click on “Add Custom Section” in the discharge note editor.
Select “Text” from the block options.
Type your content directly or paste from another source.
Use markup formatting to improve readability:
**bold**
for emphasis*italic*
for highlightingTables for structured content (e.g., medication schedule)
Lists, headers, and more
Text blocks are great for writing detailed instructions, aftercare steps, or follow-up reminders.
Steps to Add Image Blocks
Click on “Add Custom Section” and choose “Image”.
Upload an image (e.g., wound care example, medication illustration).
Customize the image settings:
Resize the image to fit your layout
Choose placement: left, center, or right
Add a caption or description to give context
Image blocks are perfect for showing how-tos, treatment areas, or example outcomes.
Steps to Add a Video Link
To make your discharge notes more engaging and informative, you can include a video link that will appear as a scannable QR code for pet parents.
Add a new custom section on the Discharge Document.
Click on the QR Code block.
Paste your video link (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, Loom) into the field provided.
Customize your QR code:
Change the color to match your clinic’s brand.
Adjust the size to fit the layout of your discharge note.
Add a short description (e.g., “Watch how to administer eye drops”) to help the pet parent know what the video is about.
That’s it! When the discharge note is printed or emailed, the QR code will be visible. Pet parents can simply scan it with their phone camera to open the video.
Custom Prompts Templates
If you're using Tails AI Assistant, you can speed up your discharge note creation by using smart templates that auto-generate content based on the visit context.
What Are Tails AI Templates?
Templates are predefined prompts that help you quickly generate custom content blocks—like home care instructions, medication watchlists, or condition summaries. These prompts pull in contextual data such as:
Visit details
Prescribed medications
Patient’s medical history
Species-specific advice
Types of Templates You Can Use
Digitail-provided templates: Useful starting points for common scenarios (e.g., Post-Surgery Home Care Guide, Diarrhea or Vomiting: Home Management).
Clinic-created templates: Your team can add and manage custom templates tailored to your workflows.
Team-sharing: Everyone in the clinic can see and reuse templates added by colleagues.
Writing a One-Off Prompt
You can also write a custom prompt on the spot. Just type what you need (e.g., “Instructions for cleaning ears at home”), and Tails will generate a block with personalized instructions in seconds.
Templates are available to clinics with Tails Assistant enabled. If you're not using Tails yet, you can activate a free trial to try out the feature!
AI-Generated Summaries
Leverage Tails AI Assistant to automatically generate care instructions based on the medical record:
Generates a detailed summary based on diagnosis, services, and treatments.
Customize the prompt to reflect your preferred wording, tone, or language.
Quickly edit or regenerate the output as needed.
📌 This feature is only available to clinics with Tails AI Assistant enabled.
Share or Print Discharge Notes
Once your Discharge Note is ready:
