The Communication Log

See every communication your clinic sent, logged, or received, and check whether each message was delivered, opened, or failed.

What is the Communication Log?

The Communication Log is your clinic's record of every client communication that went through Digitail: the emails, text messages (SMS), VoIP calls your clinic sent, the phone or other interactions your team logged by hand, and the replies clients sent back. Each entry shows the client and patient it belongs to, what was said, and how far an outgoing message got.

Note: the Communication Log is a record, not a workspace. It does not include chat, and you cannot answer a client from it - chat conversations, and replying to anything a client sends, both happen in the Inbox. You can also log new communications from the Patient's Timeline.

How this helps your daily work

  • Front desk / receptionists - check whether a reminder or a confirmation actually reached a client before you pick up the phone to chase it

  • Vets & nurses - pull up exactly what a client was sent about a patient, including the documents attached to it

  • Practice managers - see every channel your clinic uses in one list, and spot the messages that are not getting through

Where to find it

In the main menu, go to Communication -> Communication Log.

The page opens with the Filters panel at the top and the list of interactions below it. The Date Range starts on roughly the last month, so widen it when you are looking for something older.

How to search for communications

  1. Go to Communication -> Communication Log.

  2. Set the Date Range so it covers the day the message went out. Anything outside that range stays hidden, however you filter.

  3. Narrow the list with any combination of Client, Email, Phone, Channel (Email, SMS, Phone, VoIP, or Other), Type (Direct, Reminder, Notification, Reply, or Client statement, where a Reply is a message the client sent back), and Status.

  4. To search the message itself rather than the client, type into Search. It matches the subject and the content.

  5. Click Search. The line above the list counts the interactions that matched, and each row shows the Date & Time, Patient, Channel, Content, Type, Client, and Status.

  6. Select the subject in the Content column to open the message in full.

Tip: the Reset button clears the filters, which is quicker than undoing them one at a time when a search comes back empty.

Other things you can do

Read what a message actually said

Select the subject in the Content column and the message opens in a panel on the right: the client and patient it belongs to, its channel, type, and status, the time it was sent, and the message itself. Files that went with it are listed under Attachments, and you can download them from there.

Check whether a message reached your client

The Status column tells you how far a message got:

  • Processing - the email or text is on its way and will be delivered shortly

  • Delivered - the email or text reached your client

  • Opened - your client opened the email

  • Clicked - your client opened the email and clicked a link or an attachment inside it

You may also see Scheduled, Not Delivered, Canceled, Skipped, Unknown, and Send Error.

Remember: a text message never reaches Opened. No mobile network reports whether a text was read, so an SMS stops at Delivered. Email opens and clicks are measured with a tracking pixel, so treat them as a useful signal rather than proof.

See one patient's communication history

You can also view all client communication for a single patient from their Timeline, filtered by type or by date. Use the Change Filters sidebar to filter by user or by location if your clinic has more than one.

Tips & best practices

  • Start with the date range - it is the one filter that hides results without telling you, so widen it before you conclude a message was never sent

  • Filter by Status to find what is not getting through - a run of Not Delivered entries for one client is usually a wrong or inactive email address or phone number on their file

  • Search by email address or phone number when a name is ambiguous - the Email and Phone filters match the address the message was actually sent to

  • Use the Inbox to reply - a client's reply is logged here, but you cannot answer it from this page, and the conversation it belongs to lives in the Inbox

  • Use the Patient's Timeline to see all communications related to that specific pet, regardless of past or present owners or co-owners, or of clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where is the Sent Notifications page?

It was retired in July 2026, and the Communication Log took its place. Everything the old Notifications page listed - reminders, notifications, and direct messages - is in the Communication Log, alongside more filters and the message content itself. Its old address no longer opens the page, so go to Communication -> Communication Log instead.

What is the difference between the Communication Log and the Inbox?

The Communication Log is the record of everything that went through Digitail on email, text message (SMS), phone, and VoIP: what your clinic sent or logged, and the replies clients sent back, with a delivery status on each outgoing message. The Inbox is where you read and answer what clients send you, and it is the only one of the two that carries chat.

Do client replies appear in the Communication Log?

Yes, under Type: Reply. Filter on it to see only what clients sent back. To answer a reply, open the conversation in the Inbox.

Does the Communication Log include chat?

No. Chat conversations are not logged here. Read them in the Inbox, or on the Chat page, which stays available until the Inbox is fully rolled out.

Can I see what an email said after it was sent?

Yes. Select the subject in the Content column and the full message opens, including any attachments.

Why can't I find a message I know we sent?

Check the Date Range first, because the log opens on roughly the last month and anything older is hidden whatever else you filter by. If the range is right, click Reset to clear the other filters and search again by the client's email address or phone number.

What's changed

August 25th, 2026 - Communication Log: renamed, and moved under Communication

As of August 25th, 2026, this page is called the Communication Log and sits at Communication -> Communication Log.

It was previously the Communications Center, at the address /communications-center. Links and bookmarks on the old address still reach the page.

July 28th, 2026 - Sent Notifications page retired

As of July 28th, 2026, the Communication Log is where you find every client communication Digitail sent or logged.

This was previously the Sent Notifications page, also called the Notifications page and labeled 'Notificari' in localized interfaces, at the address /sent-notifications. That page was removed and its address no longer opens anything, so use Communication -> Communication Log instead.
